At the turn of the century, (man that makes me sound old…lol) I played the drums aboard the Carnival Destiny. That was an awesome opportunity, getting to play through many different styles including:

• Motown
• Las Vegas Revue type shows
• Jazz (big band, avant-guard, dixie land…)
• Latin
• Pop
• R n’ B
• Light Rock
• Country

It was a 10 piece band: drums, bass, guitar, keys, trumpets, alto sax, tenor sax, baritone sax, & trombone. For the Las Vegas Revue type shows, it was a good experience to play with a click/soundtrack live. I’m in the process of trying to gather up some video footage of those days from people that I collaborated with.

This first video is a practice run through Global Tour #1 in Tommy Igoe’s book Groove essentials. It goes through Fast Rock, Slow Shuffle, Calypso, Slow Funk & Fast Baiao Samba. I chopped down all three play along tracks in Pro Tools to under 4 minutes apiece from the original 15 minute lengths.

This next video is a practice run through Global Tour #2. It goes through Fast Swing, Slow Rock, Fast New Orleans-2nd Line, Slow Songo, & Fast Merenge
